Cover > Insurance

It is very important to have the correct insurance for the mountain you are trekking or climbing and the country you are visiting. When getting insurance some of the main points to consider are that the policy covers you for the altitude you will be going to and whether the insurance covers you for only trekking or both climbing and trekking. High altitude rescues can be very expensive and it is important to make sure that the policy covers you for emergency evacuation from a mountain. In the Himalayas the nearest hospital is normally many days walk from the mountain and for treks and climbs in the Himalayas it is important to get a policy that covers you for evacuation by helicopter. As well as these considerations make sure that your insurance covers you for loss of equipment and that the policy gives you excellent medical cover.

For citizens of the UK we have found that one of the best mountain insurance policies available can be obtained from the British Mountaineering Council (BMC). The BMC offer a range of policies suited to your individual needs and requirement’s while on the mountain and while travelling.  If you are not a UK citizen it is often worth while contacting the mountaineering council for your country to see if they offer insurance policies similar to the BMC.
