Standing at a height of 5199metres Mt Kenya is Africa’s second highest peak and the most technical of the big three African mountains.
Mt Kenya is not just one peak; it contains multiple rock spires and summits, ten glaciers and numerous valleys. The three highest peaks are Batian (5199metres), Neilion (5188metres) and Point Lenana (4985metres). Both Batian and Neilion are technical climbs with routes ranging from grade IV to grade VI climbs.
The highest point trekkers can reach on Mt Kenya is Point Lenana with an average of 8000 people making the top of the peak every year.
Mount Kenya lies 17 kilometres south of the equator; it is 600metres shorter than its larger neighbour Kilimanjaro and offers some of the best climbing in Africa.
