At a height of 5642metres Mount Elbrus is Europe’s highest mountain.  Elbrus sits within Russia’s Caucuses mountain range close to the border with Georgia and the entire region is a popular destination for sight seers and mountain adventurers.

Unlike most treks on Elbrus that use the huts at Garabashi as a base, and ascend a large part of the mountain using snow cats, Lava Expeditions ascends the mountain in a classic form using tented camps between Garabashi and the summit.  This helps with the acclimatisation process and makes for a more enjoyable experience on Mt Elbrus.

Large amounts of gear have to be carried between camps and the trek is not for the faint hearted.  All meals are supplied on the mountain and Snow Cats are available to help with the movement of gear between the tented camps.

The Elbrus region is very beautiful but the area around Garabashi has seen it’s beauty and views spoilt by construction.  The views of the region open up after 4000metres and for this reason Lava Expeditions has put this trip together.

Elbrus is not a technical mountain but it does require trekkers to be confident in the use of Crampons and ice axes.  Overall the trek gives clients the opportunity to experience Elbrus away from the hustle and bustle of Garabashi while getting the chance to acclimatise at a good pace and explore the Elbrus region.
