About us > Climb Kilimanjaro for charity
In many of the areas where we operate, charities play a big part in improving the lives and communities of the local populations. We have witnessed first hand the difference charitable organisations can make to peoples lives and for this reason we are always keen to work with charities through the use of expeditions as a fund raising tool. Over the last few years trekking and climbing mountains has become a popular way for charities to raise money. Lava Expeditions would like to form partnerships with charities, business or individuals who would like the opportunity to raise money for their chosen charities through trekking and climbing.
When working with charities or individuals climbing for charities we are able to offer discounted rates on many of our expeditions freeing up more money for the particular charity. We are particularly keen on working with charities that operate in the same regions as Lava Expeditions but the discounted rate applies to all charities and individuals climbing for charity.
In 2011 we will be continuing our work with the Porters of Kilimanjaro Photographic Project who with the help of Lava Expeditions recently published a book entitled “Cameras of Kilimanjaro” The project has proved to be a great success and Lava Expeditions is proud to have played a role in creating the book.
To show our commitment to the local people who work on Kilimanjaro we will be donating 5% of our annual profits to the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project a charitable organisation created to assist the porters of Kilimanjaro and to educate the wider world about the many issues facing them.
We will also be working with READ International an award winning charity that collects books from the UK and distributes them to schools in Tanzania and Uganda.
